Day 1

Marangu Gate (1,860m) to Mandara Hut (2,700m)

  • After breakfast, you’ll be picked up from Moshi or Arusha and driven to the Marangu Gate for registration and permits.
  • You’ll start your trek from the gate and hike through the rainforest, which is rich in flora and fauna.
  • After approximately 3-4 hours, you’ll reach Mandara Hut, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 2

Mandara Hut (2,700m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

  • After breakfast, you’ll continue your trek through the rainforest and into the heath zone.
  • You’ll have a brief stop at Maundi Crater for a stunning view of the surrounding landscape.
  • After approximately 5-6 hours, you’ll reach Horombo Hut, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 3

Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Kibo Hut (4,703m)

  • After breakfast, you’ll continue your trek through the alpine desert zone, passing the last water point.
  • You’ll reach Kibo Hut after approximately 5-6 hours, where you’ll have an early dinner and rest before the final summit ascent.
Day 4

Kibo Hut (4,703m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

  • You’ll start your summit ascent at around midnight, using headlamps and warm clothing.
  • The trek to the summit can take 6-8 hours, and you’ll arrive in time to watch the sunrise over the African continent.
  • After taking photos and enjoying the summit, you’ll descend back to Kibo Hut for breakfast and rest before continuing to Horombo Hut.
  • After approximately 11-15 hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Horombo Hut, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 5

Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Marangu Gate (1,860m)

  • After breakfast, you’ll start your final descent through the rainforest back to the Marangu Gate.
  • At the gate, you’ll receive your summit certificates before being driven back to Moshi or Arusha.
