The Lemosho Route

A Scenic and Acclimatization-Friendly Ascent to Kilimanjaro’s Summit

The Lemosho Route is a scenic and less crowded pathway that approaches Kilimanjaro from the west. Renowned for its excellent acclimatization opportunities, it significantly enhances the chances of successfully reaching the summit of Africa’s highest peak.

7-Day Itinerary: The Lemosho Route’s 7-day itinerary is a captivating journey through various vegetation zones, starting from the lush rainforest, progressing through heath, moorland, and culminating in semi-desert terrain. Along the way, trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers, valleys, and peaks.

Day-to-Day Trek: The trek embarks at the Londorossi Park Gate and proceeds through the Lemosho trailhead, leading trekkers to the Mti Mkubwa Camp, Shira 1 Camp, Moir Hut, Barranco Camp, Karanga Camp, Barafu Camp, and, finally, the majestic summit at Uhuru Peak. The descent follows the Mweka Route, providing an exhilarating adventure from start to finish.

Summit Push: The itinerary includes strategically placed short days to facilitate acclimatization and rest before the all-important summit push, which occurs on day 6. Trekkers commence the summit push around midnight, reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise. The same day, they descend back to Barafu Camp for well-deserved rest and then proceed to the Mweka Camp for the night.

Conclusion of the Trek: The journey culminates on day 7 at the Mweka Gate, where trekkers receive their well-earned summit certificates and bid farewell to their dedicated trekking team. A waiting vehicle then transports them back to their hotel in Arusha or Moshi, marking the end of an unforgettable adventure.
